E-Sailing School

This may be the most important event that's happen to sailing since someone created sails. I could not have happen without the Internet, computers and many other technologies. Getting from beginner to expert in sailing takes time. This method of learning is going to make learning much faster and broaden the scope of your learning. At some point in time we will be teaching weather, terrain, maintenance, engines and boat construction. For the time being, we plan on making super sailors of anyone wanting a healthy lifestyle that will give them great pleasure for the rest of their life. The mechanics of the program will be easy to use. Most communications only require pushing a button.

Both School packages are similar. The big difference is the cost of the school and the tracking software is included with a new boat purchase. This type of sailing school is going to be much better than any previous schools held for a few days or a weekend. Even the weeklong schools do not use your boat as a teaching vehicle. You can learn more on your boat than you can on someone else's boat. What we are going to teach you are the skills you need to know to be very good at sailing. The instruction will not include the weather, although some times we may talk about the weather. We will talk about the terrain sometimes, but not as much as you need to know about the terrain where you sail. What we will do is teach you about the details you need to know to be an excellent sailor.

The mechanics of any software program is always a pain. You have to learn something before you can learn something else. It would be great if you could go straight to the good stuff and stop there. That's not the way it works. In this case, you are going to have an instructor that will help you get thought the bad stuff and get to the good stuff. Most of the bad stuff is only pushing a button and you can do that. The software and the tablet are yours to keep and you will use it for the rest of your sailing life. Its little database is going to record how bad you were and good you are as time goes on. Maybe you can pass it on to your kids someday

You need to get familiar with the tablet. It's a Samsung with lots of quality and a very fast GPS. The reason we use that tablet is because it has a quick GPS. Many other tablets are much slower. The tablet comes with a "How To" page found under "Setting". You should read it because the tablet does a lot more than just teach sailing. The tablet also uses your house's Wifi and your phone's Wifi hotspot (when tracking). You need to know how to connect them and make them work. You don't have to have a phone hotspot, but tracking in the car and boat isn't going to work without one.

OK, here comes a tablet in the mail. You unwrap the box and plug-in the tablet to a wall socket. The tablet manual says 6 hours, but I have seen them fully charged in less. We have already charged the tablet once and installed the software. You can play around with the tablet some and maybe read the manual. If you have questions and you will, start the application called Notepad. I like to talk to the application and not type my questions. It takes some practice to think what you are going to say and then say it without screwing it up. It's OK to screw up. The conversion is just between you and the instructor. When you are ready, push the button that says "Send" and your question is going to go to your private Web page server. We plan on giving responses to questions twice a week and we will give you our schedule when we first make contact. Your Web address will be in box with your tablet.

The instructor will want to see pictures of your boat. You and the instructor will talk boats for a while and then on to sailing and taking more pictures of the sails, the water and the terrain. You can see from what I said that you could talk to the instructor one on one with pictures and words. He is also going to reply to you with pictures and words on your Web page. He has a cool way to markup pictures and asks questions.

The instructor will evaluate you and your boat performance with several software programs during your course of instruction. Most sailors own several boats during their lifetime. You will know when you get to be an old man or woman which boat pointed the best and sailed the fastest. We will teach you how to record your performance.

The Tracking program is a fun program and maybe a lifesaver. It can tell your wife when you will be home for dinner. I also used one coming down the Chesapeake many years ago and everyone kept track of our progress. Car or boat, it is a cool program.

We hope to make this form of instruction available to the World at some time. The next States where the instruction will be available are South Carolina and Virginia. Of course we will consider special requests if we can make it work.
